Master Rhee was born on the 1st of January 1935 in Korea. He holds the title of ‘World Grand Master’ in taekwondo & is widely known as the ‘Father of Australian Taekwondo’ for introducing it to Australia. He is the founder of ‘Rhee Taekwondo’, which is Australia’s first & biggest taekwondo school.
He holds the rank of 8th dan & is one of the twelve original ‘Masters of Taekwondo’ of the ‘Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA)’.
In His Youth
Master Rhee was born in Korea during the period of Japanese occupation from 1910 - 1945. As a youth he trained in martial arts, basketball, boxing, gymnastics & weights.
Later he was an instructor in the Korean Marines for three years, teaching unarmed combat to the Marine Commandoes, Marine Brigade Headquarters, & the Marine 2nd Infantry Division.
Under the direction of the KTA, Master Rhee helped introduce taekwondo to Southeast Asia - Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia & Brunei
In 1970, Master Rhee was the first taekwondo master sent to Australia by the Republic of Korea, & was ranked 5th Dan at the time. He founded ‘Rhee taekwondo’ in Adelaide, South Australia. He was promoted to 8th Dan in the early 1980s.
This year, 2017, Master Rhee is 82 years old. He currently resides in Sydney, Australia.
Through hard work he has established a very strong foundation for the ‘Art of Rhee Taekwondo’ with the assistance of a massive network of black belt assistant instructors. Master Rhee’s experience & highly skilled technique have greatly contributed to Rhee Taekwondo’s massive expansion throughout Australia & New Zealand.
He still personally conducts Rhee Taekwondo grading examinations across most of Australia & New Zealand 4 times each year.
